We had a lovely afternoon with Wendy and Tim, taking their first family portrait shoot; and for first timers they were so relaxed and natural throughout the session.

We met them after completing Shawn and Liz’s photo shoot, at a beach near Mount Coolum. For their first family portrait shoot we walked along the boardwalk near the beach and then took some stunning images of the family behind the sand dunes.

I love using wild grass for a little bit of detail in the foreground of a photo, as it adds a frame to the photo and increases the naturalness of the image. It is much more preferable to shoot out on location with natural light in comparison to using studio lighting.

Whilst using studio lighting can be more predictable, natural light in a natural setting often allows portrait photos to have a little more depth and ultimately creates a much more flattering portrait photo.

Here are some other tips to help all budding photographers to use natural lighting.
